Update! July 2025

After a thoroughly enjoyable year of operation, we have decided to close the restaurant to make way for another venture.

We would like to thank all our loyal regular customers and all those of you who appreciated what we were trying to do and your support, amazing feedback and wonderful five star reviews!

Harvey's was established to fry the best fish and chips basically because virtually everywhere else offering fish and chips does such a mediocre job of it (claggy seed oil taste, bad chips, saggy batter etc). We believe that we made a true effort to provide the best fish and chips possible, making a feature out of the traditional use of beef fat for deep frying and it was a real joy to connect with our customers who appreciated what we were doing: sourcing the best fish we could and cooking our triple fried chips which pretty much everyone raved about.

It was a really brilliant feeling to know that so many people were so glad to visit us and enjoy this most wonderful food done properly (and told us so!). We did keep looking for ways to make the product better, more consistent, and always true to our principles of frying to order (not holding any fried food warm) as well as serving a decent range of beers and wines.

We built a great team and although we were only open 12 or so hours a week, I hope we brought some joy into people's lives over the last twelve months.

A new venture will appear in our lovely building shortly!

End notes

We have a fantastic frying range which quite genuinely is considered the Rolls Royce of frying ranges, if that's still a thing. I don't recall when I last saw a Rolls Royce but I suppose they must still make them.

Anyway, long story short if you are reading this and you are interested in fish and chips and think that you could make this work in your area or perhaps in your gastro-pub or restaurant, and if you are interested in a fantastic under-canopy three pan Kiremko frying range capable of impressive volume and amazing results, then get in touch! It'll be heaps cheaper than buying a brand new one. It's gas powered but may be convertible to LPG (I think). Also, if you want any kind of advice, training, consultancy on how to fry the best fish and chips possible, then I can help with that too.

Finally if you or someone you know is interested in taking over the brand and website, pop me a message and we can discuss. There may be someone out there with deep pockets who shares the passion for this amazing food and could make this business work, perhaps in a different town or district, so if that's you, or you know someone who fits the bill, get in touch!
